Hey friends
I’m Prem. I am originally from North Dakota, before I moved to New York to study history. I am now Zeteo’s political correspondent, in DC.
The way I view the world, and our place in it, has evolved a lot. The combo of where I grew up and where I studied helped me get so much out of both. It’s led me to appreciate humility, and that there’s so much for us to learn from the world and from each other; and generosity, the kind that’s been given to me as I’ve learned more, the kind I think we all could give one another.
I don’t like how a lot of the media & political apparatus views us: as irreconcilable, as static, as fixed in our views. It discourages curiosity. It disregards the basic truth that we impact and learn from each other. It dismisses a world where we could actually be for each other, and not simply in spite of each other.
The word “politics” can make you tense up, but the act of politics — to imagine a vision, and to try bringing other people to believe in it too — is actually pretty beautiful. But if you view people as static, you can’t really do that.
So, this newsletter is just a place for us to try going against that.
It’s focused on the array of ways we are told a better world isn’t possible — and how so many people pursue one anyways. In my day job, I write often about the manifestations of our worst impulses. Here, I want to write about the possibilities of our best ones.
